Now that 192 costs something like 40p from a private phoneline, this an excellent online alternative. Basically, it works the same - enter the name of the business or person, and the area, and click 'Search'. A lot cheaper and a lot easier, although if you're not entirely sure of the name or place, the human alternative is to be recommended.

This is a complete interactive atlas of Great Britain. You can enter a place name, postcode, phone number - or even a grid reference - to bring up a map of the relevant area.
